Jamai Raja fancied for Royal Dad Trophy

first_img THE ONE TO BEAT Having scored a fast-time victory over 1500 metres on September 24, JAMAI RAJA is tipped to repeat when he takes on six opponents in the Royal Dad Trophy 3-y-o restricted stakes over 1820 metres at Caymanas Park today. Among his rivals are the consistent WILL IN CHARGE, who finished 3 1//2 lengths second behind a very fast 1:30.2, as well as MR DOITBETTA, who was third. AWESOME DESTINY, who has been disappointing in recent races, should welcome this milder pace and should get significantly closer from the handy mark of 52.0kg. JAMAI RAJA, however, won so impressively last time out that the free-running colt from the stables of Richard Azan ought to be followed from the convenient mark of 52.0kg and top apprentice Bebeto Harvey again in the saddle. He is definitely the speediest in the lineup and although his detractors will point to the fact that his two wins this season came on muddy surfaces, his close second to BIGDADDYKOOL in the Lotto Classic (Governor’s Cup) over 2000 metres back in May, makes him the one to beat. The Robert Pearson-trained WILL IN CHARGE was highly fancied to beat JAMAI RAJA in the mud and although looking likely to mount a challenge entering the straight, failed to find extra and ended up in second place. He should make it closer over the longer distance of today’s race and looks the obvious danger to JAMAI RAJA. Elsewhere on the 10-race programme, the knotty looking open allowance sprint promises keen competition among the nine starters, including the recent winners CHACE THE GREAT, CRUCIAL APPEAL and NUCLEAR AFFAIR, along with CAMPESINO, TRADITIONAL PRINCE and DREAMCOMETRUE. The Dwight Chen-trained 3-y-o colt, CHACE THE GREAT, impressed in winning his last three races and despite the presence of stable companion CRUCIAL APPEAL – who won recently – is light enough with 48.0kg to win again. I also like FREE RANGE in the fourth race, HE’S A MACHINE in the sixth and GLYDER in the 10th.last_img
