While dismissing the PIL, the Division Bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan highlighted that the original purpose of a Public Interest Litigation is to voice the concerns of the downtrodden. Filed by Abhijit Mishra, the present petition challenged the criteria to access the development and promotional schemes under the aegis of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006. The Petitioner submitted that the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India has developed a highly arbitrary eligibility criteria which are biased and restrictive towards the profession of Advocates. The Petitioners case was that the prejudiced eligibility criteria of having GSTN, Business PAN, TAN as mandatory requirements in order to be eligible to access the development schemes of the Government of India is against the welfare of the Advocates. The petition stated: ‘Government of India has not introduced any development schemes for the welfare of the Advocates such as training platform or access to the collateral free loans for purchase of the equipment such as laptops, printer and scanner etc. for accessing the E-Courts.’ Subscribe to LiveLaw, enjoy Ad free version and other unlimited features, just INR 599 Click here to Subscribe. It is possible bench seats could come back, thanks in part to cars that are either electric or autonomous cars.At one point in American automotive history, just about all cars had bench seats — they inherited the feature from horse-drawn carriages. Bench seats were perfect for squeezing several passengers in a car, and were great for watching the drive-in movies that became popular in post-War America. However, American automakers soon found themselves scrambling to meet demand for smaller sportier cars with bucket seats that could compete with the European cars American soldiers had seen during World War II.- Advertisement – – Advertisement – The words “classic American car” might conjure memories of massive sedans, flourishes like tailfins, big engines and in many cases bench seats. The front bench seat was once a standard feature of American cars, but over time it disappeared, in part due to changing tastes and safety regulations. Its disappearance actually says a lot about automotive history.- Advertisement – Today there are few vehicles that have bench seats in the front, and they are almost entirely trucks and full size SUVs.Changes in technology are reopening the door to bench seats, and they have been spotted on some electric and autonomous concept designs. Some autonomous vehicle designs even suggest seating passengers around a table in the center of the car.Should that happen, millions of Americans might once find it possible to cuddle up in a car and watch a movie — just as so many did in the 1950s. The Chevrolet Corvette and Ford Mustang were two of these legendary American answers to European cars.A push toward safer vehicles in the 1970’s also hurt the case for the bench seat. Automakers wanted to be able to install automatic seatbelts and airbags in cars and had a hard time making them for the center seat on the bench.Over time, carmakers crammed more stuff into the center console of the car between the two bucket seats — everything from music players to climate controls and gear shifters. Consumers grew accustomed to the amenities.- Advertisement –

23 August 2004While Donovan Cech and Ramon Di Clemente won South Africa’s first rowing Olympic medal on the weekend, taking third in the 2 000m pairs, swimmer Roland Schoeman captured his third medal of the Games, bronze in the 50m freestyle, making him one of the most successful South Africans in Olympic history.Schoeman went into the semi-finals of the freestyle sprint having recorded the fastest time in the semi-finals of 21.99. In the final, however, he didn’t enjoy the advantage he usually gets from the start, as Jason Lezak very nearly matched him. Ultimately, though, it was defending champion Gary Hall junior and Duje Draganja who got the better of the South African ace. The American clocked 21.93 to steal gold ahead of Draganja, who recorded 21.94. Schoeman finished in 22.02.The third place finish means Schoeman collected a medal of each colour at Athens 2004 – he also took gold in the 4×100 freestyle relay and silver for the 100 metres freestyle.Only Penny Heyns (two swimming golds in 1996 and a bronze in 2000) and Charles Winslow (two tennis golds in 1912 and a bronze in 1920) had managed to win three Olympic medals for South Africa. Schoeman joins that list as the first to achieve the feat at one Olympic Games.Cech, Di Clemente give their allIn the final of the men’s heavyweight pairs, rowers Donovan Cech and Ramon Di Clemente went into the race struggling with lower back problems. However, they were determined to not let anything stand in their way, and a whole-hearted effort enabled them to capture bronze.Heading into the final quarter of the race, the South Africans were in fifth place. But a fine finishing effort, the fastest of any crew in the race over the final 500 metres, enabled Cech and Di Clemente to pass both Serbia and Montenegro and Germany to move into medal position. So great was the effort the two men put in that Cech, after crawling out of his boat after the race, lay on the pier, retching, 20 minutes after the race.Freitag: tough handicapWorld high jump champion Jacques Freitag bravely tried to contest his event despite a severe foot injury, but the handicap proved too much as he was eliminated during qualifying, having managed only 2.20 metres, well below his best of 2.37 metres.A number of other athletes failed to make it beyond the qualifying rounds, including Geraldine Pillay in the 100 metres, Khotso Mokoena in the triple jump, Johan Cronje in the 1 500 metres, Marcus La Grange in the 400 metres, and Elizna Naude in the discus. In the women’s heptathlon, Janice Josephs finished well behind gold medal winner Karolina Kluft on 6 074 points.Hockey: women win at lastOn the hockey field, South Africa’s women’s team finally got their game together to dump Germany 3-0. Sharne Wehrmeyer put SA on track after only four minutes, and goals in the second half from Pietie Coetzee and Jenny Wilson secured a convincing win. Germany later went on to beat South Korea and qualify for the semi-finals.The men’s hockey team suffered another tough loss, going down 3-2 to Australia after playing the second half without Iain Evans, who was red-carded. It was South Africa’s second 3-2 loss – the Dutch beat them on a last minute goal – while in another heartbreaker, India scored two in the final minute to beat South Africa 4-2.The South African tally included yet another goal for the prolific Greg Nicol, while Emile Smith also netted.Sailing, fencing, shooting, divingThere were no heroics from South Africa’s swimmers in the 4×100 metres medley relay as they finished well out of the running, in eighth place in their heat.Gareth Blanckenberg wrapped up his challenge in sailing’s laser class with a twenty-sixth place finish in race 11, leaving him in seventeenth place overall.South Africa’s women’s fencing team was well beaten in their team epee clash with Greece, going down 34-15, while Martin Senore failed to qualify for the final of the 50 metres rifle prone competition, and diver Jenna Dreyer finished well down the standings in qualifying for the women’s 10 metres platform final. In athletics action on Sunday, Estie Wittstock ran in the semi-finals of the 400 metres. She clocked a useful 51.77, but at Olympic level that wasn’t enough to get her into the final as world number one Tonique Williams won the race in 50 seconds exactly.

On a course many consider the toughest test of golf ever, Tiger Woods performed like, well, Tiger Woods. The old Tiger Woods, that is, meaning he managed his way around the very difficult Olympic Club in San Francisco with aplomb, hitting a variety of shots into rock-hard greens and making enough putts to post a solid 1-under 69 Thursday. An effort like that is further evidence that Woods could be truly returning to the form that made him golf’s envy. He has not won a major championship in four year, but to trail leader Michael Thompson by just three shots after the first day is a significant step toward major No. 15.Playing with Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson, Woods made four birdies against three bogeys. His stretch of consecutive birdies on holes 4 and 5 moved him to 2-under. He bogeyed the next hole and parred his way in from there.Meanwhile, Mickelson and Watson blew up. The pair of lefties were all over the place, shooting 76 (Mickelson) and 78 (Watson), respectively.Woods mixed driver and irons off the tee throughout his round on a course that is not particularly long for this championship but does have some dramatically long holes, especially on the front nine.Missed birdie putts on the first and second holes — yanking the latter off the lip from about 4 feet — cost Woods. But they did not distract him.Michael Thompson, the 2007 U.S. Amateur runner-up at The Olympic Club, was outstanding Thursday, taking the clubhouse lead at minus-4.

James is additionally charged with a special circumstance allegation of torture.Police and prosecutors allege that Bushee and James — both on probation in connection with a burglary in San Bernardino County — broke into Gawitt’s home, where at least one of them stabbed her before the pair stole her car and fled.Authorities searched for the burglars by ground and aboard a law enforcement helicopter throughout the morning. Shortly before noon, the pair were arrested in an open, brushy area off the 4800 block of Park Drive, about a tenth of a mile from the victim’s home.Deputies found the victim’s car abandoned in the 800 block of Grand Avenue in San Marcos about five hours after the fatal assault occurred, sheriff’s Lt. David Buether said.Last April, the suspects were arrested after a homeowner in Upland walked in on them as they were ransacking the victim’s home, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. The pair fled with thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and electronics, including $70,000 in collectible coins stuffed in a sock.Bushee and James are both being held without bail and are due back in court March 21 for a readiness conference.Related story:Victim identified in Carlsbad home invasion, murder Two people plead not guilty in fatal stabbing of a Carlsbad woman KUSI Newsroom, Categories: Local San Diego News FacebookTwitter KUSI Newsroom
