Intercity play begins this week

first_imgby Malik Vincent For New Pittsburgh Courier Allderdice went into week one of the regular season with, perhaps, the biggest challenge of all the teams in the city—playing defending WPIAL Class AAA champs Central Valley in their house on Sept 2.It looked as though the Warriors had met their match, as Allderdice (0-1) held them to only a 7-0 halftime lead, but their 29-point third quarter blew the game open.Despite the Dragons’ 13 unanswered—and only points—they fell to Central Valley, 36-13, in a game that had a game-time temperature that exceeded 90 degrees.“By the time the second half came, it had felt like I had just gotten out of the shower,” Allderdice coach Jim Haslett said. “I had to pull (star lineman) Tyrique (Jarrett) from the game due to a lack of hydration. It looked like he’d lost 15 pounds, just in that first half.”Jarrett, a senior who plays on both sides of the ball, had just verbally committed to the University of Pittsburgh prior to the game. The Dragons’ two scores came on a one yard run by newly installed starting quarterback Braden Hoffer and an 84-yard fumble recovery by Alfred Diggs in the final stanza.“I told our guys going into the game that they have to bring their A-game,” Central Valley coach Mark Lyons said. “That’s one thing we have to get used to, because we now have what everyone wants right now. (Allderdice) came in with a lot of swagger, so you have to give them credit.”Other news:USO (University Prep, Sci-Tech, Obama) 20, Summit Academy 6: On Sept. 3, U.S.O recorded its first win in school history. Senior Dante Forte was involved on all three of their scores as he returned an interception 33 yards, hooked up with Myles Catlin on a 13-yard pass for a score, and crossed the goal line from 23 away on a run.Westinghouse 36, Bentworth 23: The three times Bulldogs tailback Soloman Winton touched the ball, it went for a score. He totaled 120 yards for the game and crossed the end zone on runs of 17, 46, and 52 yards. Quarterback Ronald Brown also hooked up with Dontae Jones on a 73-yard touchdown pass in the first half.North Hills 35, Perry 13: Senior quarterback Darelle Carson finished 12 of 19 passing for 164 yards and two touchdowns on Sept 2. He connected with Dante Marcus for 33 yards and Antwan Collier from 10 for the only scores of the game for the Commodores.Schedule (Week 2):Brashear vs. USO, Thursday 6 p.m. Sept. 8.Allderdice vs. Oliver, Friday 3:30 p.m. Sept. 9.Carrick vs. Perry, Friday 7 p.m. Sept. 9.Langley at Theodore Roosevelt, DC Friday 7 p.m. Sept. 9.Westinghouse at Linsly, WV Saturday 1:30 p.m. Sept. 10.(Follow our continuing coverage of the City League and add your comments to our website at (Malik Vincent can be reached at [email protected])last_img read more

Powered by Firework The former legendary Indian cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar told that the 50 overs game should be splitted in 4 innings of 25 overs. According to the legend of the game, introducing this format will help to get rid of various problems at this moment. The dew factor, toss and wash-out will not favour any single side if this format is accepted.Advertisement According to Sachin Tendulkar, team A will bat 25 overs and after that team B will bat 25 overs. After that, team A will again start from the point where they have ended their first innings and team B will bat in the last 25 overs. If team A lose all their wickets within first 25 overs, team B will get the opportunity to score the run inside 50 overs. There will 15 minutes break after each innings.Advertisement Sourav Ganguly has become the President of BCCI few days ago. Sachin gave him this proposal to introduce in the domestic cricket. 3 Free Video Editing Applications

first_imgPro video editing tools at a price everybody can afford – free!Although Final Cut Pro X and Premiere Pro are getting most of the love these days, there are a few other video editing options that provide a professional toolkit, but won’t cost you a dime. In this post we share 3 FREE video editing apps.As for paid professional apps, Adobe has been on top of the subscription model, including Premiere Pro in the Creative Cloud at a cost effective price of $49/mo. Final Cut Pro X costs a 1/3 of it’s previous price, now available from the Apple App Store for $299.99.  Lastly, Avid Media Composer will set you back $1,300 or $49/mo.So, how do the FREE alternatives hold up to their professional counterparts? Let’s take a look…DaVinci Resolve 11 LiteDaVinci Resolve started off as a color grading system, however that changed once Blackmagic Design purchased the system from JDS Uniphase Corporation in 2009. Since that time Blackmagic has been expanding the editing capabilities of the app with every release (along with more powerful color tools). Resolve 11 is the premiere color grading app it’s always been, but it also includes a comprehensive video editing toolset, similar to what you’d find in the paid NLEs we discussed above.DigitalTutors highlighted some of the recent video editing related additions to the app in their recent blog post:DR11 incorporates a updated edit index that can filter clips by flags and offline clips.A variety of different editing and trimming tools that increase the power and precision of editing clips.A new JKL trimming tool allows you to trim during playback, both forwards and reverse at different speeds.Transitions can be added through a drop down menu that’s accessible by right clicking between cuts within the timeline. The drop down menu contains preset options that can be changed by the user. The full version of Resolve 11 costs $995, however Blackmagic has made a free ‘Lite’ version of the application available with much of the same functionality as the paid version. In fact, all of the editing tools from the paid version are available in the Lite version (the biggest differences between the versions is missing 3D features and noise reduction).DaVinci Resolve Lite is available for both Mac and PC. Download at Blackmagic Design.Filmmaker Central has a detailed introduction to DaVinci Resolve Lite:EditShare’s LightworksLightworks is a professional video editing application created by Editshare. With the ability to edit 2K and 4K video, Lightworks has been used on several Oscar and Emmy Award winning productions such as Hugo, Mission Impossible, The Departed and Braveheart. While the functionality is impressive, Lightworks does have a steep learning curve. If you have no real experience with video editing applications then you’ll need to dive head first into the documentation and online tutorials (of which there are plenty).Lightworks is available on Windows, Linux and Mac. Download at LWKS.comHere is EditShare’s tutorial on creating a project in Lightworks:iMovieYou may be thinking “iMovie, really?”Yes, iMovie doesn’t have the toolset that Final Cut Pro X does. Yes, iMovie comes with EVERY Mac. Yes, iMovie has some really cheesy transitions and backgrounds! I hear what you’re saying! But iMovie’s interface and workflow is similar to just about every other professional non-linear video editing application. Successful video editing is, above all else, about storytelling and iMovie has everything you need to put together a story on a timeline base. Final Cut Pro X borrows some of it’s look and features from iMovie, so it’s a solid primer before you take the FCPX leap.iMovie is, and always will be, available on Mac only. It costs $14.99 as a stand alone app, but does come FREE with all new Macs.Which one of the FREE video editing apps do you like best? Do you know of other free solutions that did not make the list? For NBA, Chicago is slam dunk for 2020 All-Star festivities

first_imgTyphoon Kammuri accelerates, gains strength en route to PH Commissioner Adam Silver, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Bulls executives Michael Reinsdorf and John Paxson were on hand Friday for the announcement on the United Center floor.Silver said Chicago faced “a lot of competition” to bring it back and the city’s plan put it “over the top.”FEATURED STORIESSPORTSWATCH: Drones light up sky in final leg of SEA Games torch runSPORTSSEA Games: Philippines picks up 1st win in men’s water poloSPORTSMalditas save PH from shutoutRenovations in and around the arena, a new 10,000-seat facility on the Near South Side and Emanuel’s desire helped bring in this one. So did a change of heart by the Bulls. For years, chairman Jerry Reinsdorf opposed hosting the game because of concerns about displacing season ticketholders. But with son Michael — the president and chief operating officer — assuming more authority and grandson Joey in favor, he relented. “I’m sure we would have been here sometime earlier in the last 30 years (had the Bulls been interested),” Silver said. “When the mayor and Michael Reinsdorf showed interest, it put them back to the top of the list in a way just because we like to rotate around the league. It’s a major city, and we haven’t been here in a long time.” “We’ve been going for so many years,” Michael Reinsdorf said. “At the end of the day, I tried to explain it to my dad. I don’t think he’s been to an (NBA) All-Star game since 1988. I tried to explain to him the difference now than what it was like when we hosted last. It’s just such a great impact to the city.”There was some thought that the 2019, 2020 and 2021 All-Star games would go to teams with new arenas. Golden State, Sacramento, Milwaukee and Detroit have all either recently constructed new homes or have one being built. But the schedule also got thrown off a bit after North Carolina passed a law restricting the rights of LGBT people. The league moved the 2017 All-Star game from Charlotte to New Orleans in response. After North Carolina passed a compromise bill limiting anti-discrimination protections for lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender people, the NBA gave Charlotte the 2019 game.As for 2020?ADVERTISEMENT QC cops nab robbery gang leader, cohort Kammuri turning to super typhoon less likely but possible — Pagasa “There were several other cities that were interested,” Silver said. “We try over time to take care of all the cities that do want to have an All-Star game. I think it becomes a function of timing. I think for some of the other cities that were building, some of the refurbishments that are planned had not been completed yet, had not been finalized in terms of financing so the timing just didn’t work out. It’s really more a function of scheduling.”The United Center opened in August 1994. But it has been undergoing a bit of a transformation in recent years. The biggest change is the construction of an addition adjacent to the arena. It houses offices as well as a Bulls and Blackhawks team store and concessions. The Bulls moved into a new practice facility across the street a few years ago, and the Blackhawks will be moving into a new one nearby in a few weeks. The 10,000-seat Wintrust Arena that just opened a few miles away on the city’s Near South Side will host some All-Star events as will Navy Pier.“We’re excited not just holding a basketball game, but of hosting the world because now the NBA has gone from … an American game held here in the United States to a world event,” Emanuel said. The mayor has pushed hard to land high-profile events such as the NFL and NHL drafts in recent years. But this will be the first major All-Star game in the city since Major League Baseball held its Midsummer Classic on the South Side in 2003. The NHL last had it in Chicago in 1991.Silver isn’t concerned about having the All-Star game in a cold-weather city. Most events are indoors, though he acknowledged snow can disrupt air travel. When Jordan put on his show in 1988, Silver was just a law student at the University of Chicago, sitting in an upper level at the Stadium. He figures to have a better view this time.
